Day 1 - My First Entry
Here I am with a day off from work, I tend bar full time and run an eBay store full time as well. Hard Core Thrift Store - why I chose that name is a mystery, I liked it at the time so I'm staying with it. Technically, when I say I have a day off it means that I am not tending bar. On a normal "day off" I would attend to my eBay store by updating listings, answering customer inquiries, posting listings and packing sold product to be dropped off at the post office, I have already accomplished this today.
Happy St. Patrick's Day! My father is making corned beef, yum, I am looking forward to having supper with him. In the meantime, however, I wrote the "About Me" page here and am managing my first post.
Am feeling a bit saddened, my friend Joe S., passed from a stroke 2 days ago, he was an accomplished writer and PhD. His passing was just another wake up call for me. It is reminding me to move forward. press on - write that book, lose that weight, visit friends, stop smoking. Time passes so quickly. Do something with the time I have so that I leave this world with no regrets. He has published books, traveled the world, taught as a professor and left behind a loving memory and legacy for his children and grandchildren. One of his books, "Living Community: Thirty Think Pieces for Moving from Dreams to Reality" has been on my Amazon Wish list and is reminding me of one of my strong character flaws; procrastination! I happen to find it extremely interesting that this book also touches on another one of my flaws; not trusting people...
"In sharing his findings, Schaeffer reveals the five main qualities of character demonstrated by people who create vibrant, cohesive communities -- Genuine Interest, Acknowledgement, Deep Empathy, Altruism, and Mutual Trust -- and investigates the kinds of creative communication that nourish these qualities. "
If I can learn anything from Joseph after his passing, it is to build strong relationships and to trust the people in the circle that you have built. Today, I trust that Joe has also left me his legacy. Thank you, Joseph Schaeffer!
I have also written these posts, worked on ebay, balanced my check book, freelanced on MTurk, and stopped procrastinating (if only for today)!
